ABOUT THE SHOW
Each week, host Josh Hancock presents a fast-paced and fun-filled half hour that offers unique information about cars, looks at cool new technology and demonstrates how cars affect our lives.
In the premiere episode, viewers watch a driver get to trade in his junker for a hot car, go on a tour of facility that provides cars for movies, partake in a practical joke played on valets, and test out a three-wheeled, high-powered dream machine called a Corbin Merlin Roadster.
Can a car change a person? Josh pulls aspiring writer Vince Jolivette of Los Angeles out of his “less than perfect” 1991 Ford Escort and hands him the keys to an $85,000 Maserati Spider. It doesn’t take long for Vince’s driving habits and attitude to change. Will co-workers and women change their opinions of him, or is it the car they are attracted to?
Next, Ray Claridge, owner of Cinema Vehicle Services, gives a tour of his facility, the largest designer, builder and renter of cars and trucks used in movies and TV. The company’s 8.5 acre lot features everything from one-of-a-kind luxury vehicles to police cars that can be customized with the logos of any force in the country. Using the El Dorado used in Austin Powers 3 as an example, SHIFTING GEARS demonstrates how cars are modified not only to meet cinematic production needs but to look great on screen.
In each episode, SHIFTING GEARS features regular news and entertainment segments. “Gadgets and Technology” looks at the hottest trends in auto toys, such as the latest advances in in-car entertainment systems. During “Auto Match Game,” Josh tries to guess what car people drive based on various questions as: “Does your car represent your personality?”; “Do you own or lease?” and “What types of things do you have in your car?”
SHIFTING GEARS also airs a regular segment featuring practical jokes involving cars. Viewers get in on the fun as Josh drives a beat-up 1975 Cadillac El Dorado to an exclusive restaurant where the valets can’t start the vehicle--only Josh knows the specially rigged way it will start. To what lengths will the valets go to remove this eyesore from the front of the eatery?
